The Yamazaki Single Malt Whisky - Distiller’s Reserve

The Yamazaki Single Malt Whisky - Distiller’s Reserve

Introduction

This Yamazaki release first appeared in 2014, from Suntory in Japan. A single malt from the Yamazaki distillery, bottled at 43%, having been matured in Mizunara (Japanese Oak) casks, with influences of varying degrees from finishing in Bordeaux wine casks and Sherry casks.

Nose

Strawberry sweetness, sandalwood shavings, coconut cream, and dried cranberry. Very inviting.

Palate

The sweetness from the nose comes through, in an almost jam-like intense way. Some fresh satsuma oranges, red grape, vanilla pod, and an oily mouth finish.

Conclusion

An interesting palate, and actually very enjoyable if you like sweeter whisky! The finish is a continued sweet with a slight "grape skin" note, but again, not offensive in any way. Imagine how your mouth would feel after having some jam-covered toast and a swig of water... it is that sweet!
