Introduction
What is there to say about this Laphroaig. Lovers of the 10 Year Old expression get more to explore with these cask strength releases. Yup, batch 12 is yet another brilliant batch of Laphroaig's cask strength 10 Year Old!
As with previous batches, this strongly peated whisky has spent a full decade of ageing in bourbon barrels, before being bottled up at an eye-watering 60.1% ABV.
On the Nose
Um. Peat. A really nice musty cigar box scent, with sweet vanilla, and honey on toast.
On the palate
A nice savory taste, with coffee, wood and spice (including nutmeg). After your palate becomes accustomed to the usual strong laphroaig notes, some sweet salted caramel comes through, with an almost burnt brown sugar appearing on the after taste.
With water?
Water lets the dram breath, and brings out the maritime savoury notes which were hidden by the harshness of the strong ABV.
Conclusion
If you love Laphroaig, you'll love this dram. Giving you the room to explore with your own addition of water to your taste, the cask strength expression of the famous 10 year old is well worth investing in. Peated and Perfect.
