Wolfburn Aurora

Wolfburn Aurora

Introduction

A release from 2016. This Wolfburn liquid is matured in a combination of casks, namely 40% in second-fill quarter casks, 40% in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, and 20% in first-fill Oloroso Sherry hogsheads. I love a sherry influenced whisky, so I have high expectations!

On the Nose

Lovely notes of almond nuts, sweet raisins, that familiar note of green apple, a lovely ripe pear, and light 'artificial' vanilla flavouring.

On the palate

Sweet fruity notes come through first, mostly sweet poached pear, some very light hints of a smoke (not peat, more a kind of burnt toast). More vanilla, this time fresh vanilla pod (not artificial), with a very light spice. Actually a short finish, shorter than I expected for some reason!

Conclusion

I loved the smell of this, but the taste wasn't as interesting. I expected more from it, but to be fair, it was still worth tasting. Not sure I'd rush to try it again, as it wasn't doing anything overly interesting for me. It was one of those "yeah, it's alright" kind of experiences. Wasn't bad. Wasn't amazing. Just average.
