Introduction
Dalmore 12 was one of the first whiskies I was lucky enough to buy as a 'full bottle'. It's one that started my love of whisky, and I'm always excited to try it again.
I remember it like a sherry bomb of a dram, with rich and deep flavour given its age. They do add colouring to appeal to the mass market, but I've always forgiven Dalmore for that because the flavour speaks for itself.
Ā
On the Nose
Fruit and nut (so raisins, chocolate, nuts), with some orange peel and sweet vanilla. Walnuts and slight warming spice. It smells like a very Christmassy dram.
On the palate
All the nose notes come through, with a lovely warming sensation, balanced by some sweet vanilla, bitter orange, maybe some burnt wood, but a very pleasing mouthfeel to finish. It is rich, especially for the age of this whisky, and doesn't disappoint.
Conclusion
I love this whisky. I think because it stated me on my whisky journey I'll always have a soft spot for it, artificial colouring and all! If you are new to whisky and want to try out sherry cask finished liquid, get this. You won't be disappointed!
