Introduction
I've never tried a Craigellachie, and to start off with a 17-year-old feels like a jump to the good stuff! At just over £100 a bottle, I have high expectations, but also, an open mind.
On the Nose
A rubber note hit me first, with some sweeter honey and melon showing up soon thereafter. Malt, but mellow, and just a nice simple smelling whisky. Nothing to blow your socks off, but sometimes, that's good!
On the palate
Initially sweet, but still oily. Similar to the nose, but slightly less of the fruit. More malty biscuits, or shortbread with caramel. Frosties (the cereal) makes an interesting debut to my tasting notes!
Conclusion
Overall, a nice dram, and I enjoyed drinking it. I'm not too sure I'd pay £100 for a bottle, even with the age statement being healthy. Just goes to show, age isn't everything.
If you offered me a dram, I'd take it. If you asked me to buy a bottle, I'd pass.
